Matriarch’s Murmur

2025 Barrett Winner

5th Place Furqan Hassan

She rose in the valley of nothingness
A petal of hope she grew to be
She established her roots in the driest of places,
and forced the rainfall there to be
She grew slow but she grew strong
Correcting along the way all that was wrong
In her domain there is shelter too
Only if you be real and be the original you

Ductility in her halt
And there is softness in her fleeing
In fine tonality, her heart
But tectonic is her being
Allegro to her noise
In fact, there is retro in her voice
All evil efforts fail, all the trickery
At the outpost of her facial symmetry
She remains in limelight
Yet surprises in hindsight
She is the forethought of a rebellious movement,
A critical juncture, retribution of a historical torment
