Day at the Zoo

Sparrows eating bread
while I have a snack.

Warthogs root in the dirt,
walk on their knees.

A tourist approaches, says hi,
curious about me—

and lions lounge in a comfy spot,
their roars extinct,
and exhausted parents lead sleepy children.

Red panda, shady elm, wild dogs, all
in my car for a long ride home.
